UE4 Mario Style Level Design

September 16, 2019

Louisiana State University

This is one of my favorite project submissions in Unreal engine to date. It is an introductory course and the first level design assignment given to students. Normally I get what you would expect from a student's first level they built with some flow issues, goal confusion and generally difficult to play.

This was such a well crafted Mario level that still works even with Unreal's default third person charcater controls (which are not very well suited for 3-D platformers). The student went overboard with objects that were just for viewing from different parts of the level, cut scenes where you go from one area to another and just excellent puzzle design that escalates from the begining to the end. Flawless!
